Mega Dike Road

Saturdays became our regular biking days. This time, we planned to take a more challenging path - the Mega Dike. It was built to prevent lahar from flowing to parts of Pampanga and at the same time as a shortcut from Bacolor to Porac.

Though smoothly cemented, the road here is long and winding. It continuously slopes upward starting from the entrance along OG Road, Bacolor all the way to Porac. Those characteristics made the ride challenging for beginners like us. Crossing the dike definitely tested our speed and endurance. Racing to the end made us tired and exhausted. On the contrary, we really felt we've done a good cardiovascular exercise. Our consolation was the fresh air and the pleasing views of the natural feature of the country-side.

Our trip back was quite different. We sped up descending and it felt very liberating.

On our way home, we came across another different challenge. We went to a shortcut where we have to cross a narrow, wooden bridge. Because of the limited width of the bridge, we have to carry our own bikes and balance ourselves.

I can say that the Mega Dike can be a good training ground to enhance a biker's resistance, speed and stamina.
