Batiawan, Subic, Zambales feat. BZ Mont Bikers Haven

The Nabuclod ride from my previous blog was such an exhilarating experience. It brought our biking skills a notch higher. So to keep the momentum up, we set the next weekend for another climb on the other side of the mountain at Batiawan, Subic, Olongapo.

Together with the Dawn Bikers, we went to Floridablanca, Pampanga where we began our journey. We started off on flats before landing on off-road paths, followed by a winding trail, then finally reached the climb. As compared to Nabuclod in which the road went up and down the hills, Batiawan was mostly uphill with short flat breaks, which made the ride tiring. The slopes were steep, however, unlike in Nabuclod, we were able to bike to the top without having to walk. Still, we exhausted our gears, applied the zigzagging technique, and rested every now and then.

What motivated us in this ride was our destination, the BZ Mont Bikers’ Haven. It is an accommodation / diner atop the mountain ranges. It is especially designed for bikers, but it is open to other tourists as well. They have parking bars for the bikes, cottages for cooling down and dining, and nipa huts for overnight stay. The cottages are complete with pillows and cycling magazines, perfect for chilling out after a tough ride. Numerous tarpaulins are posted on the ceiling which are pictures of the different biking groups who were able to visit the place.

Upon our arrival, we relaxed ourselves, then we were served with a nutritious brunch buffet. We learned that the ingredients used were all hand-picked from their garden. After the meal, we toured the place. The view was spectacular. It was overlooking the mountains and surrounded by nature. The place was also very clean.

We left BZ Mont before noon. It was again a downhill ride back. The challenges we encountered were the rocky roads, cracked cemented pavements and the steep curves. We were advised to mind our breaks and of the way ahead. We also have to grip the handles lightly but firm to avoid rigidness. It was pure adrenaline rush all the way down.
